Samidori, Uji, Kyoto | First Flush | Grade 5A | 40g = 20-40 cups
The Uji region in Japan is considered the birthplace of matcha – it cultivates some of the highest quality tea in the world. The climate, mist, and traditional cultivation methods of this region give matcha its vibrant green color, gentle sweetness, and creamy taste.
The Samidori variety grown here is often called the "green pearl" by the Japanese, as it is renowned for its exceptional color, gentle sweetness, and creamy, luxurious taste. It is one of the most prized matcha varieties for ceremonial tea.
This is a first flush matcha, which has the highest concentration of chlorophyll, amino acids (especially L-theanine), and antioxidants.
Matcha is commercially graded from 1A to 6A to help understand its quality. Generally, the more A's a matcha has, the brighter and richer green its color, the smoother its taste with more umami and less bitterness; lower quality matcha tends to be paler, yellower, more bitter, and harsher. 5A matcha is bright green and creamy.
Bonus Tonus matcha naturally boosts energy, strengthens focus, and helps manage stress.
